Here's your opportunity to learn the art of Maori weaving "Raranga" with our 8 week night class course for beginner weavers, using harakeke (NZ flax).

About the event
Over the course duration, you will learn how to make:
- whariki (small mat)
- konae (2-cornered purse)
- kono (4-cornered container)
- kete kumara (fruit/vege container)
- kete kai (shopping bag)
You will also learn:
- tikanga (protocols) including karakia (prayers) and waiata (song)
- harvesting and preparing harakeke
- traditional and contemporary techniques
We are based at the Waiohiki Creative Arts Village (south of Taradale, Napier) which is central to both Hastings and Napier residents.
- Maximum of 8 akonga (students)
- $70 Bond (to be paid immediately) to reserve your seat
- $200 Course Fee (to be paid before the first class) to secure your seat. (NB: those on a benefit may be able to have their fees paid through MSD).
